Four contract clauses that most often go unnoticed

These clauses usually sit at the end and go unread — which is where the trouble starts.
When reviewing contracts we look at the same clauses each time. They are almost always where the problems are.
1. Jurisdiction for disputes
The other side names a court in their own city. If a dispute arises you have to travel — time and cost.
2. Unilateral variation rights
Wording along the lines of "either party may change the terms". It usually concerns price.
3. Asymmetric penalties
You pay a penalty for delay; they do not.
4. Termination conditions
When and how you can exit. Sometimes six months notice is required.
Having a contract reviewed before signing costs a few hundred. Fixing it afterwards costs thousands.
